Intestinal worms are parasites that live on the intestinal walls of the body; they are capable of living in other areas of the body but seem to prefer the intestines. Intestinal worms infest humans all around the world but are especially common in more tropical areas, especially during the rainy season; they are usually more prevalent among children than in adults.

There are hundreds of different types of parasitic worms that could be living in various parts of the body at one time; they vary in size and some are microscopic while others can grow to as much as 35 feet in length. Some of the more common types are hookworms, whipworms, pinworms, heart worms, roundworms, threadworms and tapeworms.

Intestinal worms can get into the body by eating with dirty hands, eating uncooked, undercooked or unwashed foods, eating foods that have been washed in contaminated water, by walking barefooted and coming in contact with larva infested soil, through transmitting agents such as mosquitoes, or through the nose and skin; once the worms have gotten into the body by the various means, they migrate to the intestines and start reproducing there.

There are some worms that can live in the body for years with no visible side effects or symptoms; however there are others that cause a barrage of problems including abdominal pains, distended abdomen, constipation, anemia, blindness, memory loss, chest pains, diarrhea, dizziness, joint pains, muscle spasm and many others; children especially may grind their teeth while sleeping or may complain of itching around the anus.

There are some preventatives steps that you can take to minimize the risk of worm infestation such as ensuring your hands and food are clean before putting them to your mouth, as well as performing regular enemas or colonics.

However, it is inevitable that no matter how careful you are, at one point or another you will be affected by worms; doctors are often reluctant to recommend medication for worm infestations as the ‘cure’ might be more toxic to the host than to the worms and cause side effects such as nausea, rashes, or headaches.

Nevertheless there are a lot of natural remedies that you can use to get rid of the worms that won’t cause any adverse effects to you; a quick search online will show you these various remedies and how to administer them. The natural remedies available include the use of coconuts, garlic, wormwood, carrots, pumpkin, papayas and several others. If you can wait, the best time to administer any of these treatments is first thing in the morning, right before there is a full moon as this is the time when worms become most active and go to the entrance of the anus to lay eggs.

The most important point to make note of is that intestinal worms can only thrive in a clogged, unhealthy intestinal tract. If your colon is clean and healthy the worms cannot thrive there so the best cure and prevention is keeping your colon healthy.
